My Version of a Famous Mouse

 

I happen to have quite a bit of ultrasuede on hand in dozens of colors and thicknesses so I thought it would be the perfect medium to build an antique doll of a famous mouse that we all know and love.  It took me many many many tries before I got this right.  This mouse is completely hand sewn with nylon invisible thread.  The black eyes and buttons are gently glued on.  Ultrasuede is very forgiving and stretches well.  The tail on this mouse is made from a black leather cord.  There is wire in his arms and legs.  His head is joined onto his body so that his head can turn around 360 degrees.  I can't remember how tall he stands but I think he's a little over 3 inches tall.  Possibly 4 inches tall.  It was fun to make him even if it took me three times as long to put this fellow together as it does for me to sew a little furry bear. 

 

Green and Yellow

 

I tried to find the orginal photos of this bear and couldn't find them so this little sampling will have to do.  This was one of my favorites because the fur is so unique.  This bear is made from a sparse yellow mohair with a lime green fabric.  I bought this fabric with much hesitation because who would want a green bear with yellow hair?   His eyes are made from small matte black seed beads.  His nose, mouth and claws were embroidred with dark brown nylon floss and his ultrasuede paw pads match the same color brown.  I added a 7mm yellow silk ribbon to his neck for added color.  This bear stands at 2-1/2 inches tall.  I shaved the fur around his muzzle so you could see his adorable face.  Again, one of my favorites!

A Winter Bear With a Friend

 

I'm not too thrilled with the quality of these photos, but they're all I've got.  This is a teddy bear made from a sparse cream mohair.  The fur is a little long so I had to trim it around his face so you could see his facial features better.  He stands at 2-3/4" tall.  He's a stout fellow with cream ultrasuede paw pads, small black glossy seed beads for eyes, and he is fully-jointed like all of my bears.  His nose, mouth, and claws were embroidered with dark brown cotton thread.  He is wearing a true kelly green crocheted scarf made from tatting thread.  I've lightly stitched it to his shoulders.  He is holding a little "Hallmark" Miniature Snowman Ornament.  (I took off the loop at the top of his head.)  I've also lightly stitched this snowman into the arms of this bear so he couldn't be removed. 



Teddy Bear with Green Crocheted Santa Hat

I won't bother to repeat everything from the previous post about the Santa hat.  This hat is similar to the red one except made from green tatting thread, and the bell used at the bottom of his hat is silver-tone.  This bear is made from a hand-dyed mint green upholstery plush fabric.  His paw pads are made from dark brown ultrasuede.  He stands at 3 inches tall.

Teddy Bear with Red Crocheted Santa Hat

 Towards the Fall season, I like to sew miniature bears with hand-crocheted Santa hats.  This bear is made of a faded olive green.  He is approximately 2-1/4 inches tall.   His paw pads are made of tan ultrasuede.  His nose, mouth, and claws are embroidered from dark brown cotton thread.  His eyes are made of miniature glossy black seed beads.  His is fully-jointed.  I've stuffed him with polyester and have sewn him with nylon invisible thread.  He wears a Santa hat that I have crocheted from red tatting thread especially for him.  There is a red-tone bell at the end of the hat.  The white trim is made from white mohair thread.  I have lightly stitched the hat to his head so it stays on.  I've placed it above his ear, and yes, there is an ear under there.  The hat was purposely made especially long so it serves as a scarf as well as a hat.

The bear above is approximately 1-1/2 inches tall.  Again, the hat is made to custom fit this bear.  There's never a bear too small to wear a Santa hat.

White Sparse Mohair Miniature Teddy Bear Purse

 

Teddy bear purses are fun to make. They're unique and they are functional. This teddy bear purse is made from a sparse, white mohair. This teddy bear stand at approximately 2-3/4 inches tall. His paw pads are made from a thick, light tan ultrasuede. His eyes are made from small matte black seed beads. His nose, mouth, and claws are embroidered with dark brown cotton thread. He is stuffed with polyester and he's fully-jointed.  He is sewn with nylon invisible thread.  The purse is a miniature doll purse sewn into the torso of the bear. The purse has a gold-tone chain and frame. The purse is completely functional and can hold a few very tiny objects. Sometimes these purses are made into necklaces with the chain lengthened.

Blue Patchwork

This bear was sewn in Sept. 2011. He is 1-1/2 inches tall, made from different shades of blue upholstery velvet with baby blue ultrasuede paw pads. (These photos are darker than I had hoped they would be.) I've used turquoise, royal blue, baby blue, sky blue, periwinkle, and a light aqua blue. His nose is embroidered with black cotton thread. His eyes are made of miniature black glossy seed beads. He is fully-jointed, stuffed with polyester, and sewn with nylon invisible thread. I've added a 4mm baby blue silk ribbon to his neck.
